What a member tier is

A member tier groups accounts by criteria the operator publishes. Higher levels usually carry different entitlements. What matters is that the criteria are published in advance and can be checked afterwards, rather than decided case by case.

What it is measured from

A level is normally measured from account activity over a period rather than from outcomes — two accounts with the same activity sit at the same level whatever happened to them. This page states no thresholds, because they are published per period and change.

How to judge a tier system

Four things a checkable tier system has

These are criteria for judging any tier system, not an assurance that this one meets them. You can check that yourself against what is published.

Criteria published in advance

You should be able to read the criteria before you start, not learn them after falling short.

Visible progress

Something should tell you where the account currently stands, not only what happened at the end of a period.

A stated period

You should know when a measuring period starts and ends, and how long a level lasts before it is reviewed.

A stated demotion rule

A system that explains how to rise but not when a level is lost is not fully checkable.

Questions worth asking

Before you decide to chase a level

  • What the next level's criteria are, and where they are published
  • Which dates the measuring period runs between
  • How long a level lasts before it is reviewed
  • Whether the entitlements at a level carry conditions of their own
The point worth sitting with Chasing a level means playing more in order to reach a threshold — which makes it a budget decision, not a perks decision. If the next threshold is above what you set out to spend, the straightforward answer is not to chase it.

Arrived here with a figure in mind?
