Whether your own activity is recorded and reviewable

Whether the published channel answers
Try a small question before you have a large one. A channel that is quiet when nothing is wrong is rarely louder when something is.
Whether what you read cites anything
An account of an incident with no date, no detail and nothing reproducible carries very little weight — whether it is praising or condemning.
How to weigh a review or a forum thread
What other people write is useful information, but not all of it carries the same weight. Three questions separate it quickly.
- Does it give dates and a sequence? A story with no timeline cannot be checked against anything.
- Does the writer say what they themselves did first? A good many cases that read as system failures have an unread condition sitting in the middle of them.
- Has anybody else described the same thing independently? Several posts copied from one another are one data point, not several.
This page cites no particular thread and reproduces nobody's words, because quoting a selection is how a conclusion gets manufactured out of chosen examples — the exact thing it is telling you to watch for.
The evidence on your own side
In any dispute the side with a record is in a better position than the side with a recollection, and a note made at the time outweighs one written afterwards. It is the only thing on this page entirely within your control.
